Watch Katy Perry pay tribute to Manchester terror attack victims

Singer led moment of silence to those who lost their lives

Katy Perry paid tribute to the victims of this week’s Manchester terror attack during her intimate London show tonight (May 25).

Monday night (May 22) saw 22 people killed and around 59 injured after an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena, when a lone bomber caused an explosion in the foyer of the venue. In what has been condemned as an ‘evil atrocity’, many of those hurt and killed are said to be children and teenagers. The assailant, since named as 22-year-old Salman Ramadan Abedi, a Mancunian of Libyan descent, died on the scene.

Playing a live-streamed show at London’s tiny Water Rats venue, Perry tearfully told the crowd during the gig: “Music is so powerful. This week has been really hard. It sucked. It was hard for you guys, I know that, [and] it was hard for me because we all love music. We’re all listening to the same music. Think about it and it’s like, ‘That’s my friend, that’s my sister, that’s my brother, that’s my cousin, that’s the person who loves music’. It’s awful, it’s awful.”

She added: “Whatever you can do to help, you should. If you can’t do anything, that’s fine. But what you should do is not let them win. They can never take that part away from us, ever, ever”.

Perry proceeded to lead a moment of silence before playing her new song. Watch in the video below.

Following the attack in Manchester, over half a million pound has been raised for the victims and their families.

An emergency hotline has been set up for anyone concerned about loved ones in the area or at the Manchester Arena show. Please call 0161 856 9400. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Anti-Terrorist Hotline in confidence on 0800 789321.

Gorillaz announce support acts for North American tour

Danny Brown and Vince Staples will open for the Damon Albarn-led band in the US and Canada later this year

Gorillaz have announced the support acts for their first North American tour for seven years.

The Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett-led band released their new record ‘Humanz’ in April, recently confirming US and Canada shows in Chicago, Toronto, Boston, Philadelphia, Quebec, Washington DC, San Francisco, New York, Detroit, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Denver, Seattle, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Miami for later this year.

They’ve now confirmed that rappers Danny Brown and Vince Staples – both of whom feature on ‘Humanz’ – will open for the band during these dates.

See more details in the tweet below.

Gorillaz have also announced a full UK and European tour.

Despite only releasing their fifth record last month, they recently revealed that they’re already talking about its follow-up.

Watch video

Speaking in an interview with Channel 4, Albarn discussed the long stretches between each album, saying: “It’s served us well having these big gaps [between albums] because, in the interim, the technology does move forward. And the whole thing about Gorillaz is that cutting edge between music and technology. That’s driven the whole thing and made it different.”

Hewlitt, however, went on to add that they already have an “idea” for their next record. He said: “There has to be a gap between the albums because they’re quite exhausting. They take a lot of work. But we’re already talking about the next album, so there might not be a gap this time… It starts with one idea. Like, there’s a conversation one night, you have one idea a sentence, and that is the basis for a whole album. And then we never talk again until it’s finished. And we had that one idea again the other night. So we have to get started on the next one. Not today, maybe tomorrow.”

“It’s so ahead of its time, you wouldn’t be able to understand it,” Albarn then joked when asked what the idea for the next album was.

‘Veep’ renewed for seventh season

HBO commissions another season of the Julia Louis-Dreyfus starring political satire

HBO has announced that it has renewed Veep for another season.

Political satire Veep first premiered in April 2012 and was created by Armando Iannucci as an adaptation of the British sitcom The Thick Of It. It’s set in the office of Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), a fictional Vice President, and later President, of the United States. The series follows Meyer and her team as they attempt to make their mark and leave a lasting legacy without getting tripped up in the day-to-day political games that define Washington DC.

Veep recently premiered its sixth season, which runs until June 25. Now, according to Variety, HBO has commissioned a seventh season of the show, which is slated to air in 2018. In the same announcement, Silicon Valley has also been renewed for a fifth season.

Meanwhile, Julia Louis-Dreyfus recently revealed that the Democrats wanted her to run for office in the US. The former Seinfeld star said that she had been “approached” by “top Democrats” about potentially running for office. Her response was “not in a million years”.

Louis-Dreyfus also talked about that state of satire after Trump’s victory. “It made it easier to perform,” she said. “It scratches a deep itch for me to satirise or be funny about something that maybe doesn’t seem funny at all.”

Soundgarden and Audioslave black out social media accounts in tribute to Chris Cornell

Rock frontman Cornell passed away on May 17 at the age of 52

Chris Cornell‘s bands Soundgarden and Audioslave have blacked out their social media accounts in tribute to the late frontman.

Grunge legend Cornell was found dead in his hotel room on May 17 after playing a gig with Soundgarden in Detroit. He was 52. While Cornell’s death is being treated as a suicide, his family have claimed that prescription drugs may have contributed towards him taking his own life.

As Stereogum points out, Soundgarden have uploaded a simple black image as their profile picture and cover photo on Facebook, also doing the same for their Twitter account. Audioslave’s Facebook page has also been blacked out. See beneath.

It was recently reported that Soundgarden were working on a new album prior to Cornell’s death.

Meanwhile, this week has seen Cornell’s wife Vicky pen an emotional open letter, referring to her late husband as “my sweet Christopher” and describing the singer as “the best father, husband and son-in-law”.

She continued to write: “I’m broken, but I will stand up for you and I will take care of our beautiful babies. I will think of you every minute of every day and I will fight for you. You were right when you said we are soulmates. It has been said that paths that have crossed will cross again, and I know that you will come find me, and I will be here waiting.”

Zayn Malik’s second album has a ‘more optimistic tone’ according to record label boss

The former One Direction star recently released the first track from it, called ‘Still Got Time’

Zayn Malik's second album

Zayn Malik‘s second album has a “more optimistic tone” according to the CEO of his record label.

The former One Direction singer released his debut solo album ‘Mind Of Mine‘ in 2016 and shared the first track from its follow-up earlier this year. The single, ‘Still Got Time’, features a guest appearance from PARTYNEXTDOOR.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, RCA Records CEO Peter Edge teased the new record saying it has a “more optimistic tone to it after coming through that more challenging time,” referring to Malik’s transition from boy band member to solo star.

“It shows a lot of growth,” Edge continued. He also described ‘Still Got Time’ as “talking about how it’s great to be young and knowing you’ve still got time to do everything you want to do in life.”

As the rest of Malik’s former bandmates have begun to release their own material, most notably with Harry Styles’ debut album earlier this month, the record label boss said Malik and his team weren’t changing their plans to fit around the rest of the band. “While we’re conscious of what everybody else is doing, I think we’re on the page that we just have to get on with releasing the music,” he said.

“Everybody is going to coexist. What’s emerging is that there are different musical styles that each member is getting into. Zayn just wants to make his music and do what he does.”

Edge continued to say that Malik’s new album will be “more personal”. “I think he definitely wants a lot of himself in there and I think that’s what the last record had – it maybe even gave people more insight than they thought they were going to get.”

No release date has been announced as yet, but the record is thought to be scheduled for release later this year.

HOLLYWOOD – MUSEXPO.
The conference that could change your career.

A few weeks ago we traveled to Hollywood (CA) to participate in MUSEXPO 2017.

Why relevant? In the music industry the business model for recorded music is shifting to “streaming only” (not per se a money maker for indie artists) AND more than ever there is a hunger for easy to license, original music. Representatives from television networks, consumer brands and film gathered to discuss what they need and how to do business.

Our Tribe story and musician’s community was welcomed by some of the leading authorities in the music licensing industry.

Are you interested in getting your music in tv series/film? We know, there are dozens of online services asking you to send in music for tv/film sync deals.

We have a slightly different approach:
(a) Go to Tunefind.com and research which music is being placed in today’s tv shows (b) if you have a song perfect for one of these shows contact our Head of Music, Marko Roca (c) Marko’s team will listen to your song(s) and together with you decide what it needs before Tribe of Noise will reach out to the specific music supervisor to pitch your music.

See! That’s our personal touch!
And no, we are not asking you to pay for this service.
